Belgium’s ‘right to die’ for children: a slippery slope?

1:11:51

Belgium.audience

In 2014 the Belgian government legalised euthanasia for children with incurable diseases, described by one senior politician as ‘the ultimate gesture of humanity’. This important debate considers whether these attitudes to voluntary euthanasia in the Benelux countries demonstrate a general inability to draw a line the sand in defence of human life? What does patient autonomy mean when kids are regarded as legally able to choose death but incapable of making moral decisions about how they live? The debate raises serious reservations about the demand for a dignified death. Filmed at the Battle of Ideas Festival.
