WISE Apprentice Award: Samantha McRae

1:22

Samantha McRae thumb FWB

Samantha chose the apprenticeship route because she prefers hands on work. “I had never done any machining or electrical work but I gave it a go. I have never looked back since. This apprenticeship has given me the skills I need to be a competent craftsman but also invaluable skills such as communication. I love coming to work every day and I am not sure if I would have found that without taking the apprenticeship.”

This interview was filmed and edited by WORLDbytes volunteers for the WISE (Women in Science Technology & Engineering) 2014 Awards night and screened to an audience of over 500 including HRH the Princess Royal who presented the trophies. Filming was made possible thanks to support from Bloomberg. Full versions of all interviews have also been edited by volunteers & provided to WISE to feature on their website.

What was the apprenticeship? Creating nuclear warheads is controversial but good for the women who participated in an apprenticeship that is male dominated.
